PEPENBURY RECEIVE THE KEYS OF MOIRA’S HOUSE A SPECIAL COMMUNITY HOUSE IN THE CENTRE OF TOWN THURSDAY 25 JUNE, 3PM 10/12 CADOGAN GARDENS, ROYAL TUNBRIDGE WELLS Pepenbury is a charity that provides residential and day care services for adults with learning disabilities as well as supported housing, community support services and training opportunities. With help from Tunbridge Wells Borough Council, they now have a town centre location for a house that will be named in memory of a special local girl, Moira Scott. Numbers 10 and 12, Cadogan Gardens, Royal Tunbridge Wells are two interlinked properties, adapted for the disabled, over three floors. They were converted and adapted by Mr and Mrs Scott for their daughter Moira. Tunbridge Wells Borough Council became involved with the family because the property needed to be licensed as a ‘House in Multiple Occupation’. Sadly Moira died earlier this year, leaving Mr and Mrs Scott with a fully adapted property suitable for disabled occupants. With this in mind an officer at Tunbridge Wells Borough Council put the Scott family in touch with Pepenbury who are to support a number of individuals who will lease the property. The house will soon be used to enable these disabled and/or vulnerable adults to live in the community. Their new home is to be called Moira’s House in memory of Moira Scott. Moira’s Father, David Scott, said: ‘Pepenbury’s enthusiastic involvement will allow others to live in the Tunbridge Wells community like Moira - warmly supported by friends and many others in the local shops, pubs, businesses and council. Handing over the keys will give us great pleasure to see Moira’s legacy continue.’ - ends - More information about Moira’s life and photos of her can be found at: www.moira.scott.muchloved.com For more information from Pepenbury please contact Julia Dickson, Head of Community Services, on 01892 822168 or e-mail juliadickson@pepenbury.info For further information in the first instance please contact Louisa Clarke, Communications Assistant on 01892 554273 or Nadine Cowell, Media and Communications Officer on 01892 554032 or e-mail pressoffice@tunbridgewells.gov.uk
